So, you don't think my horse is too fat?

See the roll of fat at the top of Blue's neck?  When my last horse foundered, the vet told me that is the first indication that you had better get a horse on dry lot.  Blue does have a big, crested neck by nature, but not THAT big.

And there must be some reason the girth of his saddle is getting almost too short.

The picture yesterday was deceiving.  I think this one, which I just took, tells the tale; the poor boy looks like a draft horse.

It will help matters when I get in the routine of riding at least three times a week again, but he is such a chow hound (like everybody else around here) that he still needs to be kept on a diet.

Well the picture shows he is a beautiful horse...and if you say he is overweight...well I will accept that....his coat is so smooth and shiney....won't take long to get him back into shape...now that things have settled down a bit around your place....Hugs...from KY...Ora

After you have told us what to look for I can see the roll. Hopefully you will be able to ride him more soon. That is a beautiful picture though. Helen

I think your horse is beautiful... and to me he doesn't look fat. I think he's muscular looking. But someone who knows horse's better than me may say he's chunky.. Either way he's beautiful..

Take care  :-)

Blue is skinny next to Precious. She will get way too fat. She is definetatly an easy keeper.

He is sooooo beautiful.  Should I say handsome!!  I'm glad you recognize fat so you can keep him healthy but all that fat looks like gorgeous muscle to the uneducated.

I don't know much about how a horse should look so I'll have to take your word for it.  He's a good looking horse to me.

I had to laugh at the "chow hound" comment - years ago I took my chow hound to the vet whose scale was broken so the vet asked me what my dog  weighed. I looked the vet right in the eye and said "45 pounds".  The vet stared in complete disbelief at my perfectly round dog and said "you're kidding" and I said "nope, that's what the book said!" Poor Charger ended up on a diet regardless.

I never would have noticed his neck roll if you hadn't pointed it out.  He looks beautiful to me...!            Pamela
