the warm heart of a rural community (neighbor update)

My little community... the Churches, the school, and individuals... are rallying around the cause and helping my neighbors in their trials.  Someone even has a furnished house for them to stay in until they decide what to do.

I talked to Roxanna yesterday, and she said both she and Marvin awoke and sat straight up in bed at the same time and somehow realized the house was on fire.  When she ran into her youngest daughter's bedroom, there were flames coming from the closet.  So it was truly a close call.  The kids wrapped up in blankets to run across the road to their aunt's house, so they escaped with no clothing... although of course the community is helping rapidly with that situation.

They were using a wood stove, but there are some indications the fire may have been caused by faulty wiring.  They have insurance, although she said it isn't nearly enough; they'd totally remodeled the house about five years ago, and probably didn't upgrade their insurance accordingly.

I just wanted to keep everyone informed about this situation.

Glad that everyone is pitching in to help Marvin's family. Sounds af they woke up just in time. It's good they have family around as well as good neighbors. Helen

Glad to see your community coming together to help this family in need. Definitely a "God" thing that they woke up in time and was able to get all to safety.

with all their bad luck the good luck is they are safe.  How great that everyone is helping them, even with a place to stay!!

It seems no matter how much insurance you have it's not nearly enough.. but every little bit helps..

Folks just seem to come from everywhere when one of their community is hurting or having a hard time....some would say it was the "Christmas Spirit of Love"...but I would like to think it was something we do ALL year long....so glad they are being comforted during this time....gotta be hard on the whole family...Hugs..Ora

Thanks for the update and thank goodness for the kindness of strangers.  And the parents waking up when they did!  I know they are just glad to still be alive!

Although this is awful for Roxanna, Marvin and their family, it is so heartwarming to know and affirm, the people are good and kind and giving.

Its a wonderful life. This is living proof of how folks come to the rescue. Such good news in this world, its too bad we only hear about the bad stuff. This should make headlines.... Thanks for sharing Mo

Such a terrible thing, and at the Holidays it's even worse. I'm sure the outpouring of help from your community will help enormously, BUT, there's so much you can never replace. Thanx for keeping us updated. rich

It's amazing how a community will come together for one it's own, when the need is there.  Thank God none of them were injured or worse.

Oh I am so sorry about this happening to your neighbors.  And a worse possible time so close to Christmas.  Of course there is never a good time.  I am glad they are ok.  Glad the community is coming together for them.
