green beans and new potatoes!

Cliff's new potatoes are already huge, so I quartered them.  In the old days I used bacon or ham to season this dish, but my friend Lona put me onto Oscar Mayer Turkey Polska Kielbasa.  It's less fat and calories, and it's yummy in your tummy.

The pan I'm using is part of a set my mother bought many years ago at some sort of party.  It's known as "waterless cookware" I think, and cost a small fortune.  My mom did not part easily with her money, so the man who sold these to her must have been one heck of a salesman!  She told me more than once how those pans would outlast her, and I'd be able to use them all my life.

It's funny the things that will trigger a memory, isn't it?

  1. I LOVE green beans and potatoes!  I'll be right over with my plate and fork!

Did the potatoes and beans take the same amount of time to cook?!

  2. Oh WOW  that looks so yummy.  Now I think I must fix some this weekend for dinner.  Course nothing at my house is fresh from the garden, but it will be almost as good as yours.  When I saw the pan, I thought that looks just like mine.  It is the waterless and I got it from some kind of party too, back before I married for my hope chest.  It is now 47 years old.  Guess it was a good buy for sure.
Enjoy that dinner !!!! 'On Ya' - ma

  10. Now that is a divine looking dish.  I make this kind of salad but as a vegetarian I quarter tomatoes and several of tthem to the steamed beans and new potatoes (store bought) with a dressing of wine vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, with oregano flakes in it.  Now that is a totally delicious salad. Loved this photo. I also have a revere ware pot I still use I got when my aunt died who had it for years!  That pot has got be almost 100 years old, the same as my Mother's iron cooking pot my daughter uses.  Gerry  http://journals.aol.com/gehi6/daughters-of-the-shadow-men/

  12. The words "Oscar Mayer" and "Polska kielbasa" should never, ever be mentioned in the same sentence.

    Heresy!

We Poles do not eat that dreck!

  13. Those veggies look delish!  I bought some green beans and red potatoes at the market today.  I also remember than cookware. I couldn't afford it but always envied those who could. All in all, I would say it was a darn good investment.  Anne

  15. Yummy supper!   Yep, I'm still using my 'waterless cookware' I bought  50 years ago near my graduation time.  Had gotten my very first job, made monthly payments, and have never been sorry.   They will last another hundred years at least,  I'm certain!    Judy

  18. Donna......I too have that cookware. Mine is called "Miracle Maid". My mom and dad paid dearly for the set over 45 years ago. They had to 'host' the dinner party to demonstrate the stuff. I now have the set in my 'collection'. And......I have all books that came with the set. Recipes and tips on keeping the stuff clean etc. It's great cookware for sure...Thanks for the memory jog!

  19. My mouth is watering!!  I love green beans and new potatoes with hog jowl to season it.  I like Kielbasa in Great Norther or Pinto beans; I'll have to try them with the grean beans and potatoes.  Thank you letting me know what I'm going to make for dinner tomorrow!
