Money wasted on a doggy bed

Sadie started out here using an old basket to sleep in; it was too small and tipped easily.

On her first night with us, I awoke to go to the bathroom and heard a thump-thump-thump on the floor beside me, next to the bed:  it was Sadie's tail wagging, hitting the floor.  She had abandoned the basket in the kitchen and had come to sleep beside me; because I was grieving over Mandy at the time, it seemed nice to have Sadie there where I could reach down and pet her in the night.  She used the basket during the day, however.

So last week we bought her a nice, plush dog bed, and she seemed happy enough with it.  At night I'd take it in my room and put it in her favorite spot by my side of the bed.  This seemed agreeable to her.

Last night I woke up and Sadie was sleeping beside her bed, not in it.  Although she had her head on it, using it for a pillow.

Today she hasn't used her bed much at all; nope, she prefers the carpeted floor in my bedroom.

Anybody want to buy a dog bed, cheap?

  1. dogs are just so funny.  My dog sleeps with me under the covers in my king size bed. He thinks he owns the bed.

  4. Looks like she likes to sleep all stretched out. You should get one of those dog beds with out the sides... you know just a big oversized pillow that they make for dogs.... or maybe not. maybe she just gets too warm.

  5. Dogs are so funny doing their own little things. I like the middle picture where she is cutting up her eyes looking at you. Helen

  6. I hope you keep her bed so she can at least use it
    for a pillow.
Both my Ragdoll Cat's like to sleep with their head
    on a pillow.
I am glad you bought her the Science Diet food she likes.
Both my cats eat Science diet dry and can.
It has much less fillers and fills them up quickly and
    they stay full longer.
Our Vet told me this and I feel like he was right.
My cats used to go thru several bags of store bought
cheaper brands to ONE bag of Science Diet.
Not because that's the only kind I buy but because
they like it as Sadie does.
I think about Mandy often but I sure like Sadie and
wonder what she will think of your cabin.
I hope I have not missed a post or a picture of her
    at the cabin.

  8. Hey Mo, try putting an old sweaty article of your clothing in there, maybe that will help her like it!   Anne

  9. I've had many animals and rarely have any of them used a dog bed.  Wasted money most of the time!

  10. My beagles didn't use their doggie beds until I started confining them to the kitchen while I'm gone all day.  They use them all the time now.  It probably feels good for her to stretch out sometimes!  'On Ya' - ma

  11. Don't I remember a time when you would not allow a dog to come on nor near the carpet?  LOL.
So glad she is making herself at home and that you are enjoying her.  So heart warming to me.
I miss you by the way.  These classes are keeping me busy.  I'm going to read through and see the highlights of what you have been up to.

  13. maybe the homeless shelter for dogs would like it as a donation? We have two crates unused by our dog.

  14. Maybe it will take a while for her to adopt the bed.  Give her some more time, if not, you could donate it to a shelter, like someone else suggested!  She is such a cute dog and I'm glad you have her.  Linda

  17. That sounds like my purchases of dog beds in the past.  My Dachsund Petey got one the first day he came to live with us, and he slept in it maybe twice, then started using it as a security blanket-he would drag it to wherever he decided to sleep and sleep next to it and not in it.

Later he got to where it was a toy and he carried it around everywhere he went and it finally got put up in a closet.  I'll bet if I pulled it out he would carry it everywhere once again!

I got a doggy bed for another Dachsund I had years ago and it lasted about an hour before it was reduced to stuffing and fabric litter!

Glad you had a great Valentines day-hope you have a great rest of the week, Jeff
