I love bargains!

We made a Walmart run today; I needed a few groceries, and Cliff had something to return in a store in the same town.

I noticed an employee at the meat counter changing prices on some packages, and went to investigate.  The meats were about to reach their expiration dates, so he was lowering the prices by 30%.

I ended up spending almost $50 on meat and poultry, but I now have roasts, steaks, ground beef, turkey steaks, and chicken breasts in the freezer.

Cliff and I each had a beef eye-of-round steak for dinner awhile ago, fixed on the Foreman grill.  Yum.

I do believe I'll cook a round roast in the crockpot this coming weekend, as the main course of our family dinner.

  5. Good deal...makes you feel great when you save money.  I never could get anything to come out good on the forman grill.  I'm doing something wrong, I guess.

  6. Good deal. I used to use the Forman Grill and for some reason I have packed it away. Guess I need to get it back out and start using it again. One thing it was so big and I don't have that much counter space and it was heavy for me to move back and forth. Helen

  8. I remember Mondays or the 1st day after any holiday the bargains galore. In the days of Sunday and Holiday closings. I used to buy the darkened beef for half off. Frieda put it in the crisper drawer for a few more days and we all ate tenderized steak. The way I saw it, if the kids were going to eat hamburger, so was I.

  11. I love bargains too!  I lucked out one day buying a big 24 pack of .5 liter water bottles and got to check out and they had been dropped to 25 cents!  I ran back and got 9 more 24 packs.  After they were gone I wished I had got more!

Here is to more great bargains and a great 2006-Jeff

  12. Hey Mosie!  If you're planning on making a pot roast in the crockpot, maybe you might want to try it with a package of Good Season's Italian dressing and a can of beer (or Coke.. it's optional).  Just dump both those in your crockpot with the meat, and let it cook all day!  It really makes a great, tender, tasty potroast!

    Just a suggestion! :)

    Great deal on the meats!

  14. Hubby and I have enjoyed going to Kroger and Food Lion and catching them doing this (marking down).  For a while he went on the nights they normally did the marking down....and bought stuff for the freezer.

Our Christmas present this year from his parents, among other things, was meat for our freezer.  Isn't that a practical gift? (expensive but practical).  We love it and it thrills them that we do.  We will call them all year and say things like "hey we are cooking those ribs tonight".  LOL.
    Take care.
