, and scratching my head and wondering....

If you use AOL mail, you probably know that it's possible to check and see what has happened to mail you've sent to other AOL members.  You can see whether the mail was deleted without being read, or, if it was read, you can see at what time.

What would you think if someone sent you three e-mails in a row.  When you opened the mail, you skimmed over it and saw it was only jokes; and then the person let you know they were disappointed in you because you read all three e-mails in one minute.

Any thoughts on this?

I should probably add that at the time this happened, I had just bought a filly, and was anxious to get outside and get acquainted with her.

  1. the hell?  I do that all the time.  I open 'em all up...skim for anything that requires immediate attention....and then go back and read.  If people are that disappointed in me, well....you know what I'd say...LOL

  2. i let many know that i don't read "forwards" or jokes often... rarely in fact.  About the only time i read a joke is if it comes from someone who rarely (if ever) sends one, and then i know this was something that made them laugh and feel good, so I read it.

But I tell everyone that there's just not time in the day to read all the jokes that people send so I outright ask them to not send jokes, but email me anytime they want and as much as they want.

I never check on other aol folks to see if they read my email or not.  Once in a great great while I have something really really important... that might be the one I would check on.. otherwise, why bother?  and over a joke?  duh... if i send a joke I think is funny, sure i hope they read it and think it's funny too, but honestly... it doesn't matter.  it's just a joke!

sort of sad that someone would put so much importance on if you read jokes or not.

  3. I think it is tacky. When I first was online I was tickled no end to get all those jokes but now some of them have been around so many times I'm sick of them. Paula

  4. I'm guilty of that a lot. I browse over quickly to see if needs attention ASAP. If it's jokes, or etc...I usually just delete...seen most before. And I don't do chain letters.

  5. LOL.....so you read FAST !!  They shouldn't hold that against you.   Seriously though....I also open emails and 'see' if it's something I need to take care of immediately. If not....I go on to the next one etc. Then I go back 'later' and read the jokes or the frivolous ones.

Besides....why should anyone be upset about 'how' you read your mail......I mean....come now.....that's just silly (my own opinion of course).  LOL.

  6. LOL At least you took some time to look at them.  The minute I see an email with a huge string of forwards I delete it.  Geez, I wonder what people think of me? Ahhh, I don't care.  What I do with my email is my business.  :-)

  7. I myself just skim over jokes as most of them I have already seen anyway. So what is so important about forwards. If something is important then they shouldn't be forwards. I very seldom send a forward unless it is a really good one and I think other people would enjoy reading them. Helen

  8. I think its really no ones business how long it takes for you to read thier email. For that matter its no ones business if you read it or delete it. I open some emails and delete without reading simply because its not of interest to me. Heck its a free country at least it is so far PTL.

  10. Well, remember, you asked.

I think if somebody had time to see how long it took you to read messages, they need to find something to do.

  11. Gosh, I didn't know that could happen.  Thanks for the info.  I think that person has way too much time on their hands and/ or is very insecure.  I never bothered to check and really didn't know I could.  I figure alot of mine is closed as soon as it's opened somedays.  What a riot.  'On Ya' - ma

  14. It must have been sent by a girl I work with.  I swear, she'll send me a joke I've seen 40 times...at WORK no less, then run to my desk before the server has time to send it and ask, "Did you get that joke I sent you?"  "No, I was WORKING!"  Grrrrrrr.

  15. I think whatever you want to do with the emails you get is your business....and if the person sending them checks up on what is happening to their emails.....then they need to get a life...off this computer....when someone sends me a snail mail letter...do they call and ask what I did with it...opened, threw it away....or what????  no....well same on computer....once they send it...it's mine to do with as I please.....sheesh...hugs from ky...Ora

  16. My thought: Someone needs to get a life! <LOL> I knew that you could check on e-mails...and I thinkI did that once when I was working with someone on something and wasn't sure if the e-mail had gotten to them yet, and I've been a member for MANY years!! I always figured that once I sent an e-mail it was up to the recipient to decide how much time and energy to spend (or waste) on it.....

  17. I don't answer, nor expect an answer for all e-mails.  Especially jokes.  I get a chuckle and I move on ....

Dunno what to think ... why is it so important to know if someone read, when someone read or how long it took?

Oh, wait, that was kind of your question!

  18. Oh my gosh...Mosie...I ddn't know that you could check on emails!!! lol Learn something new everyday!! It is totally up to you if you want to read an email or not!!!

  19. Several things come to mind....Why would they be checking in the first place?  What difference does it make how long it took to read the email?  Perhaps they should consider how often these forwards have been passed around and maybe you'd seen them before.  It would totally tick me off.  I would probably block them from sending me anymore email. Oh, and I would think, it's none of their friggin' business how long it takes me to read my mail.  I guess this issue has pushed some of my buttons, too.  LOL

  20. Who doesn't have to delete e-mails sometimes.  Especially if they are only jokes.  Sometimes we just don't have time to read jokes.  I can understand being dissappointed if your e-mail was personal and something you really wanted the person to read but....jokes.......no way.  Still it's awfully rude to repremand anyone about an e-mail.  I'd not worry about it.  After all....You have a life!

  21. Hi Mosie,
I have to agree with Kathy: Who would be checking things like that in the first place? LOL I sense a lot of insecurity here. I delet things without thuroughly reading them all the time! We all have busy lives and don't have time to read through every little joke, poem or whatever and most people understand that.

I wouldn't even give this a second thought :) Your a great gal!

  22. So many jokes have been around so many times.... This is a very insecure person. The only mail I am going to check to see if it has been read is something personal!

  23. Well, I am guilty of that lately.  I have been so behind on my alerts, and emails, in which I get jokes too.. that I have actually been deleting my jokes which my friend Mike sends.  I love his jokes, and the fact that he sends them, it's just that right now, I don't have time to read them.  It's enough just to get through my alerts! lol
What can I say?  People are sensitive..  <shrugs>

  26. I tend to delete Fwds without even bothering to read them. I get about three hundred emails a day and it is just too much...and some of them are so lame...

  27. Sometimes your not in the mood for jokes..sometimes you are....sometimes you have 200 alerts.....and have a crazy life...I say....lets be reasonable...I love jokes...and read almost all of them...but if I'm not in the mood, I dont...so I wouldnt take it personal...-Raven

  28. I think taking the time to check up on what happeded to any but the most important emails is rather odd.  Many times I get the same jokes and other forwards three of four times from different folks.  So I might just delete the second or third copy without ever opening.  -  Barbara

  29. I think if it's just fowards, it's up to the recipient to delete or read them. I tend to delete alot, since we have a few family members that tend to foward every piece of nonsense they acquire - there's quite a few instances that they email fowards to each other and then they ALL send them to me! Just tell the person you've seen them already if they insist on being "Nosy Nellies"

  30. I would ask them if they also keep track of how often I go to the toilet.  Nitpicking how fast you read their emails isn't just anal, it's verging on disturbingly control freak behavior. Personally I would DELETE everything they send if it's a FW from now on.  Without reading it at all.  That'll REALLY tick them off.
