I've been watching hummingbirds

Sunday I bought a hummingbird feeder for my porch.  I had not given it a lot of thought until this evening; I went outside to sit for awhile and heard the hum of tiny wings right behind me.

I turned to look and the little creature was gone.  Sadie was on her tie-out barking at whatever it is she barks at, and I had little hope of seeing him again.  But before you know it, he was back.  He left and came back several times, but finally he took his place on the tiny perch and drank freely from the feeder.  It appears he lives in the nearest tree, because that's where he went each time he left the feeder.

Somebody pinch me; I think I've died and gone to heaven.

Our builder-guy gave us the bid on the enclosed porch and deck we're adding onto the back, and he's well under our budget.  He'll start construction next week.

I cannot get the hummers to feed at a feeder here, but I do 'catch' them in the garden drinking from the flowers now and again.  Quick little things ... but oh so neat to watch.

My, how lucky.  A feeder on Sunday, and hummingbirds on Tuesday!  I have been trying to get them to visit my feeder for a month or more--but no luck.  They do visit my butterfly garden that I have planted--but don't seem to visit the feeder.  I followed all the directions, but the feeder just sits there.  LaVern

You will really enjoy watching the hummingbirds.  I have a feeder on my back deck, and know how much I enjoy it.  I make my own nectar, and they seem to like it better, then what I bought in the store.  You're lucky to have a hummingbird come so early.  It took about 2 months before I saw any at my feeder.  Have a great Wednesday.
Hugs,
Pat

Hummingbirds are such a pleasure. Bet you and Cliff will enjoy your enclosed porch. Then you can put a feeder near there and watch the hummingbirds while you drink your coffee or whatever you drink. Paula

I love hummingbirds!  I have 2 feeders on my porch, and they just swarm the thing!  We have so many of them out here!

Great pictures!  It's hard to catch those critters, especially in flight!

I haven't seen any hummingbirds in my yard this year. The birds are going away and no more bunnies. I blame our ever expanding urban sprawl and excessive use of pesticides and herbicides. It's sad.

I love to share my space with the local wildlife.

Enjoyed your pics and I'm so glad the little hummers have a place to go.

Watching hummingbirds is a favorite pastime of mine. :) I have three feeders out and they drain them all in about five days time. I bet once yours spreads the word you will have a lot of them too. Wow, a back porch too! Fantastic. :) Kelly

We've had hummingbirds here coming to eat from our Rose of Sharon trees, so I guess I'd better go get a feeder, too.
