Cliff and I did some shopping today (seems like the higher the gas prices, the more we run the roads) and when we arrived home, I saw a different sort of woodpecker on a tree near where we parked (in our daughter's special parking spot). He looked like this:
I googled until I found him; a red-bellied woodpecker. Now why would you call a bird with a white belly "red-bellied"?
Anyway, I don't recall seeing one before, and according to a map, we are pretty far west for him.
I received a package today; to see what was in it, click HERE.

We have a pair of those nesting in a big tree right next door, they stay here year around. They eat off my suet cakes a lot. I often wondered why it was named that when it's their head that is red. The female doesn't have as much red and it is a lighter color red. I like that wall hanging. Bet Cliff will like it too. Helen
We have lots of t hose here :) they are cute but man do they make a lot of holes. AND it always seems they are looking for something up in the air lol. OVER AND OVER again.
I had to come back and comment on the CUTE CUTE wall hanging! IT's adorable!
That's a pretty bird. I've never seen one. From the looks of the map, I may never see one either! LOL!

We have these birds a lot but they are so quick and so shy I can never get a picture of them on the feeder.
Hello,
We have those woodpeckers here in alabama! We call them a redheaded woodpecker! Hope you have a great day! Thanks for sharing!!
God Bless
Randy
I love that wall hanging. It is gorgeous!
I wonder why that particular woodpecker has that name. I'd call it a red-headed woodpecker if I saw it.
Lori
The word I use for all woodpeckers is not one I can put in your journal.
