cartoons that made me smile this morning

On this note:  Did you ever notice that the people with the most weight-loss tips are always people who are overweight?  And that folks with the most health advice are the ones with the most health problems?

Where Cliff works, they're having some sort of "biggest loser" challenge; people have split up into teams, and the winning team will be the one that loses the most collective weight.

One woman on his team has started using the workout room for perhaps twenty minutes each night at work.  So far she has gained weight every time they've had their Monday weigh-in.  Her excuse?  "I guess it's because I'm making muscle; muscle weighs more than fat, you know."

While that last is true, working out five times a week for twenty minutes isn't going to make you gain weight if you are watching your food intake.

Here's another one Cliff and I have heard several times from different people.  "I'm gaining weight because I'm not eating enough."

Huh?  We've never figured this one out, but yesterday we were able to think of four people who have used this excuse, over the years.

Cliff and I both gained weight over the past winter.  I wish I had a good excuse.  I could say that it's been a rough winter, which is has, and we've missed a lot of walks.  But listen, that half-hour walk only burns about 150 calories, tops.   I could skip the 1/4 cup of almonds I eat every evening and more than make up for that.  I just don't want to.

The truth is, the only way to lose weight is to deny yourself a bit.  You can't eat pizza or potato chips or candy every time you get a craving, and still lose weight.

Oh, and you're getting this advice from someone who is twenty pounds overweight.

I told you!  We have all the tips!

Oh, this was great to greet the day!  I think the first cartoon is just so darned funny!  Well and the second ...

I gained weight this winter too.  Do every year.  I call it 'winter fat' and work hard to get it off every spring ... but every year I leave a little bit 'just in case'.  LOL

So far, this year, I'm not down so much but I am toned more ... and I have no answers as to how I'm going to get all this weight off, but I'm denying myself more and less.  Something is bound to happen.  :)

I got weighed at the doctor's yesterday - argh!! is all I have to say. This isn't being helped by my husband, who when I asked him to pick up some cookies bought a whole CASE of "gourmet" (aka 200 calories apiece) cookies. I ate some and then threw the rest in a bag and handed them to the senior to hand out in homeroom. That way I didn't have to feel guilty about wasting food, but I got them out of the house - and out of my sight! Jackson informed me it took him less than five minutes to empty out the entire bag.

The gaining weight because I don't eat enough is me.  The body goes into starvation mode.  Any calorie gets saved - good or bad.  I have to enlist the kids to remind me to eat.
So far, my diet is going good though.  I wouldn't be horrified if I had to get into a swimsuit anymore....LOL

Great Comics.....Especially the first one.  I have passed a mirror or a window and thought....."who's that old lady?"    On weight--->  I was a thirteen pound baby, and I have been trying to get back to that ever since.  LOL       Marlene

*snort* Ain't this the truth.  I suspect that very fat people (such as myself) have been on more diets and read more stuff about weight loss that most other folks. We know allllll about it; hence all the great advice.  We're just not so good at sticking to the words that come out of our own mouths.  ;-)  (I'm hearing my grandmother's voice in my head saying "Do as I say! Not as I do!")

As a good friend of mine once said:  My husband says he gains weight because of a slow metabolic rate, but I think it is from all the donuts he eats at 3 am while he is "walking the restless dog." ~Mary

Actually yes you can gain weight from not eating enough. If you go from over eating to an extreme low calorie diet your body will shut down and you may experience weight gain instyead of the loss you wanted.
most people think they are eating less than they really are though.

Not eating enough calories. It may seem counterintuitive, but eating too little can actually stall your efforts to lose fat. As Cathy Leman, a registered dietician and creator of NutriFit! says, "...if there is a severe restriction in calories, the body may counteract this reduction by slowing down its metabolism." Be sure you're eating enough calories to sustain your body if you've increased your activity.
