John Scalzi

I'm sure most of you J-landers remember John Scalzi.  He was so helpful with any journal problems we might have been having.  Perhaps some of you read his non-AOL blog; but if not, I'd like to suggest that you read the entry he made today.  Perhaps I enjoyed it so because it reminded me of some hard times Cliff and I went through twenty years ago.

I read John's blog and tis true that what seems like at the time a terrible thing becomes a door opening to a brighter life. Reminds me of the decision I made in 1991 to come off a leave of absence and quit. Color Tile was in a downward spiral after the junk bond leveraged buyout of 1987 and I wanted to get out while I could still get my pension money out.
Had that not happened I would never have pastored one church or visited in jails, or been a chaplain's assistant as a volunteer in a nursing home. Or been to winter and summer camps with kids.
My life is so much more fulfilled thanks to the demise of a once great company. I miss Color Tile and its 800 stores in 48 states and the three stores I managed and the five folk I promoted to store manager. But we have to learn from the past while we live in the present.
Viva Dallas on April 5!!!!
