I'm doing pretty well

Just checking in to say I'm feeling pretty darned good, all things considered.  The pain from my surgery, while it's different than what I've had for the past month, is no worse, and I think even less than it has been lately.  Yesterday morning I wasn't allowed to drink or eat anything, so today I'm appreciating my cup of Folgers in a big way.  These days I force myself to drink two quarts of water a day, and I was surprised to notice yesterday that I missed that, too!

I'm sitting sorta sideways at the desktop computer with my right leg elevated on a chair like I'm supposed to do.  This morning I've dispensed with the crutches, but I only get up to go from one room to the other or to refill my coffee.  My faithful "waiter" doesn't get up at 3 A.M. like I do.  So I can actually make a move now and then without him jumping up and saying, "What do you need?" or "What are you doing now?"

The anesthesia guy listened carefully to my heart yesterday and asked if anyone had ever told me I have a heart murmur.  After thinking about it, I believe perhaps my family doctor did mention it once.  So the guy suggested I mention it next time I go see Dr. G.  After googling "heart murmur", it looks to me as though it isn't a thing that warrants any worrying unless there are other symptoms of heart disease.

Meanwhile, knowing eventually knee replacement of some sort is in my future, I'm studying up on THIS.  My friend Carol, who is a devoted follower of "The 700 Club", told me about it first, and it looks like a good solution for people like me whose "bone-on-bone" is only on one side of the knee.  I've printed it, and will take it along on my next visit to Dr. Strong, the orthopedist, and get her thoughts on it.

I'm glad you are able to get around a little.
My Sister has lived with a heart murmur her whole life. Just keep an eye on it.
Hope you feel better as the days go.

Glad that you are feeling better. I had a Dr tell me once I had a heart murmer. Turned out when I had it checked out several years later what I had was Mitral Valve Prolapse. That knee article is interesting. I have been having knee pain the last few weeks and was wondering if I should have it checked out. Thanks for the article. I will be saving that. Helen

MO, MANY PEOPLE WITH HEART MURMURS, TAKES A DR. TO DECIDE IF SERIOUS OR NOT, MINE IS NOT, BUT HAVE THE AROTIC VALUE STENOIS ALSO, AND THAT BEARS WATCHING, WHICH CARDIOLOGIST DOES EACH YEAR.
THESE MACHINES ,CALLED BODIES, CAN HAVE A LOT GO WRONG! GOOD THING TO HAVE FAITH IN THE ALMIGHTY GOD IN HEAVEN AND KEEP GOING.
BEST WISHES TO YOU,  I WILL KEEP READING AND CARING. PINK, IN MN.....

Enjoy your being pampered. :) I know Cliff will take good care of you. Glad that pain is less now, and soon to be gone. Take care of yourself and heal up fast.

I have heard that as high as 50% of people have a murmur. Your doc has probably noticed it but saw no reason to worry you about it.

This should be voted the most educational journal.  I always learn something.

That is so great that you have someone there to depend on to help you out.  Some people can be so selfish about these types of things so it's nice to see this.  My hubby is the same way...he is always TO worried!  lol  Take care of that leg and hope it heals up nicely.

I've had a heart murmur all of my life.... I don't suppose it is anything to worry about because if a doctor even mentions I have one it is only in passing, "Oh, you do know you have a heart murmur?"  Mine is because I was born with a hole in my heart (apparently another fairly common thing) which when it closed up left a tiny pin hole which causes the murmur. Ehhhh... just one more thing <LOL>

Hello Donna,

You're remarkable...

It's encouraging to hear someone so positive.... And it means SO much when pain is involved after surgery. I'm astounded that you are doing so well...
Now is a good time to "tune up the guitar" and sit by the fire for a few weeks.
I'm sure you will enjoy the benefits of the "new knee" for many years.

God Bless...

Glad to hear that the surgery is over.  Pain can wear on you quickly....at least you know that this healing pain is only temporary not like the acute pain you had pre-surgery.  Follow orders !!

I'm glad the pain from the surgery isn't too bad.  I hope you have a safe and uneventful recovery.  Take care!
