Blog addiction

I think all of us Internet-addicted folks have a certain routine we go through when we get to our computers in the morning, don't we?  Websites we visit first, etc.

It used to be an AOL chat room that lured me, first thing in the morning.  That fell by the way long ago.  Here's how my Internet routine goes, these days:

First thing I do after getting the coffee going is to check my e-mail on three different accounts:  I have a Yahoo address, an AOL addy, and an Embarq account.  I also have a G-mail account, but I've never started using that one.

Next, I peek in at the Country Living message board to see who's up and having coffee; then I run right next door to Tractor Tales.

Then I open up Bloglines; usually, after a whole night off the computer, there are scads of new entries, and I say to myself, "It's gonna be a good day, Tater!"

Family comes first when I read blogs, so if Rachel has posted, or if my son has made one of his rare, bi-monthly entries (it's all right son, blogging seems to be mostly a women's thing anyhow) I read them first.

I have two top favorite blogs that I value highly for the entertainment they give me.  One, of course, is The Pioneer Woman.  I've pimped her blog several times here.  Her readers number in the thousands for good reason.  I don't go to her blog first, though, because her entries need to be digested slowly, lest I miss a chuckle.  I save her for last, sorta like dessert.

A more recent discovery is "Because I Said So".  This mother of six only recently started blogging.  I first found her delightful sense of humor on Ebay (thanks to the above-mentioned Tractor Tales message board where someone left the link).  A potential E-bay buyer suggested Dawn start a blog, which she did.  It's so successful that she's been on National Television.  And she now has a book deal with a publisher.  See?  This blogging thing has definite possibilities.  If you have a sustainable sense of humor.  Which I don't.  My sense of humor has a mind of its own, and only surfaces when it feels like it.  Oh, if you were wondering, Dawn's blog is G-rated.   I'd rate  Pioneer Woman as a PG-13, since she does occasionally have a "hiney-tingle".  He he.   Don't worry, she won't shock you too much.

I see I have ten other blogs still to read this morning:  these are mostly entries by people whose journals I've read so long, they feel like family.  You'll find their links over on the right, under "other journals".  Except for Russ, who asked that I remove his link because he thought maybe some people were going to his journal from mine and harassing him.  I doubt it, but you never know.

So that's my morning Internet routine.  And now I'm off to read my blogs!

PS.  I'm editing this to add a couple of interesting sites that aren't blogs, but I check them out often:  FOUND Magazine and Post Secret.  That second one is NOT always g-rated, and it's sometimes sad.  Be forewarned.

Having checked out all those sites, I usually go to  Craigslist looking for bargains.  By that time, Cliff is awake hollering for coffee, and I have effectively spent about two hours of my morning online.

I wonder why I never seem to get my housework done?

I'm not quite as addicted as  you are, but I always read your journal and just a few others that as you say have become extened family after reading their journals every day for several years.  If I didn't work, I'd probably be worse than you are.  'On Ya' - ma

I find this most interesting and enlightening.  I always wondered just how much time you do spend online.

AH ... YOU BEAT ME UP THIS MORNING.  I had a few changes to do on my Journal ... now, I'm surfing.  It's a chore on my S l ooo w  dial-up connection. Yah, I always said that the livestock can be out in rain OR out in freezing weather ... BUT, NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!  BRAVO to Cliff!  BRAVO to you for leading me to CraigsList (some time ago); IT WORKS!

My first 'read' in the mornings is your blog, MO. And I too save PW for the last. It IS like dessert ! That girl is certifiable ! LOL.

I think I enjoy coming here to your site because we have been to your cute little place and we have had the distinct pleasure of meeting you and Cliff face to face, and now consider ourselves blessed to have great mid-west friends ! Keep up the good work and take care of that knee girl !

I love reading Because I Said So, and I think you are the one who first pointed me her way.

I used to wonder why I got nothing done too.  But then, I changed my routine a bit and find I can pretty much get it all done (well, not the housework) ... work, Internet, e-mail, blogs.  Phew!  So much to do, so little time.

That's the same reason I can't seem to get much accomplished after I get home from work.  Oh well!

I've forgotten what particular event prompted me to ask you remove the link -- I just really hate people who show up and leave nasty comments.  It happens from time to time.
