I don't know if you city folks were aware of it, but horses and cattle must have salt in their diet, unlike us humans who would be better if we never touched a salt-shaker. We keep a salt-block available for the horses and calves at all times, and this video shows Libby getting her fill.

She is such a pretty horse! Linda
I get Derby the little apple flavored blocks. I looked at the big ones too, but just ended up getting the brick sized ones from time to time. He sure does love it.
This was precious to me. I turned my volume quite high to be sure I got that licking sound.
I never knew that about horses! She is so pretty.
Nice breezy day and a salt lick. Who could ask for more?
Our mini spends a lot of time at the salt block. I like how Libby has her own groove!

I didn't know this....that horses and cattle need salt. I learned something today.
Hope you have a good weekend.

I never had horses, but lots of deer visited us because of the salt block and the mineral blocks we put out for them. I love to watch the wild animals.
For some reason, I DID know this! LOL! I've heard it called a "salt lick." Maybe it's because of all the horse property around here. I live near horse trails along the river and we have lots of boarded horses around.
Loved the sound of Secrets bell. It sounded so peaceful!

I wonder if the same is true for dogs....? They're always licking our arm or hand...I'm thinking because of the salt on our skin??

I remember my cow, Daisy, when I was a child living on the farm in Minnesota... loved salt too. I miss those days. We had a chicken named Shashabelle. She laid brown eggs. And a barn, with lots of hay to jump in... and a loft to jump off. Hugs,
Lisa
Salt licks - yeah, some of us city folks know, lol!
