I'm FLYING again

I've blogged about Flylady before; you'll see a link to her website over on the left there.  When I get with the program, Flylady works great for me.  Then something comes along and I get sidetracked or discouraged with my vacuum, my house, my dust... and I throw up my hands in disgust and quit.

Well, my recent purchase of a Dyson vacuum cleaner has gotten me back in touch with Flylady.  Now that I have a sweeper that actually works, I've been inspired to shine my sink (the first step of becoming a flybaby).

One thing leads to another, and I've started de-cluttering for fifteen minutes a day.  With a junk room like mine, it's easy to find things to toss.  For instance, why on earth did I keep my old microwave that only half worked, once I bought a new one?  After months in my junk room, it's now outside the back door waiting to be hauled off.

I've finally defrosted my chest-type freezer, and found garden produce I froze back in the '90's, for pete's sake.  I've defrosted that freezer several times since I first put that spinach in there, and I'm wondering why I kept putting it back, letting it get more freezer-burnt with the years.  Did I think we'd fall on hard times and have to eat it?

Will I keep on FLYING this time around, or will I become discouraged and quit?  I admit I do get tired the hard-water damage on faucets, and stains on floors, and all the other flaws of an old house with only one closet total.  I'm telling myself that at least I'm getting in practice for my next, much better, house.

For now, Cliff is noticing a big difference in how things look and feel around here, and he's pretty darned happy about it.

Hip hip hoorah!  Good for you.  Now maybe this will give me a kick in the pants because I fell off the flylady wagon a couple of years ago.  It worked for me too while I was flying.  Maybe with winter coming on things will slow down.  Am I whining......just a little.

Good for you. I need to get in the mood to do some of that. Helen

I could sooooo use a kick in the buttocks from Flylady ... we have loads of clutter around here!   Maybe I'll find more ambition now that it's cooled down, I sat like a 'lump' during that nasty hot spell we had .. which lasted all too long this year!   Well, good for you ... that Dyson sounds like a miracle worker to me, but do they sell them with a robot attached???   Judy

I just signed up for the FlyLady alerts again too! I think I kind of just cruise through the summer. When fall gets here, it starts getting dark earlier and we are spending more time in the house, I see all of the junk that I held on to for no reason. I will be flying with you or at least trying to! I can say that my sink looks really good today! LOL

Good for you!  I had to give  up on the Fly Lady when my schedule became so hectic with my Dad's illness etc.  I loved it when my sink was shinny for sure!
Maybe I'll get back on track after the holidays.  Things are still to helter skelter to try and do it now.  Or maybe now is a better time???  I do love the Fly Lady because she has such a good outlook on life.  'On Ya' - ma

One of my aunt's used to tell us all:  "DO a fifteen to twenty minute project every day."  I think as a young newlywed that was the best advice I was given -- I still make it a point to do at least one small project a day.  Dust a room or two.  Wash the windows in a room or two.  Simple, but effective.  We have only one junk drawer in the house.  If it doesn't fit in there -- it goes.  LOL!

Now that is a pretty neat site! I have never heard of it before, but it sure is a great idea.

Our Florida house only had one closet, too!  I've no idea why.  I know people back in the day had to hang their clothes somewhere!!!  (Oh well, at least I'm pretty sure we never had an outhouse on our property....)

I saw myself in this part about stuff in the freezer. I don't know why we keep stuff we will never eat. I finally did throw mine away a couple of weeks ago but it sure made me feel bad. lol Paula

I fall on and off the Flywagon all the time...right now I am frantically cleaning because I have a J-lander coming to stay with me.I am afraid for her to see my basement or the kids room...but I am concentrating on the first two floors. With all the animals and all the kids, the place is always a mess. I try to remember her no whining rule, but I feel like whining...

Some can find comfort in Flylady.  I personally find the emails very irritating!  LOL

ONE closet? No woman can function with one closet!! I spent a little time with the flylady routine - it helped me to get in the habit of using a timer for 15 minutes. It helps me a lot with my ADD. I can stick to almost anything for 15 minutes. The routine was helpful when I was packing and painting my house to move. Overall, I think she is a big help for a lot of people. Oddly, I do shine my sink, but not due to flylady. I just like it to be shiny, LMAO!

I love fly lady.  I had to quit the emails though, b/c I was in the graphic group and never read them.  But...I still follow the concepts and keep the site handy for encouragement or tips.  I took the time a year or so ago to make my "Control Journal" (not an AOL journal - lol- but a notebook) that she suggested on her website.  You can buy one but I just made my own.  I typed up my morning routine, my after work routine, my before bed time routine, and my weekly plan.  I will do an entry on it sometimes and share it.  The most help comes from my "Saturday routine" in which I have a plan for cleaning the house.  I have a tendency to get side tracked.  But every Saturday morning I open my control journal to peek at Saturday's routine and  I follow the exact order of cleaning (which I'd arranged to make sense and best use of time and mood, hard stuff first, etc.).  I love it.  It's like a game.  I will share more later on it.  It was fun doing the planning and although it sounds silly, it keeps me focused.
