We saw fine art at the fair

You can't see it because of where Cliff is standing, but there was a handle on this you could manipulate and make the pieces of wood change position.  Cliff sorta liked playing around with it, even though he kept asking, "What the heck is it supposed to be?"

Here, he's giving that handle a closer look... and scratching his behind, I think.

I enjoyed looking at the "works in progress" along with the snapshots which inspired them.

This painting tells a story.

Dennis T. Yates was there with his paintings.  I don't know why I didn't take his picture!  These are the kinds of realistic, pretty paintings I enjoy; I just don't "get" modern art.

I read artist's descriptions of pictures like this, and found that many of them were politically inspired.  Most of the time I didn't make any connection, though.  I had to take the artist's word for it.

Back to Dennis Yates' collection.  He does people really well, don't you think?

And landscapes too!

Cliff liked the way the artist fashioned the metal teeth and fins on this fish.

Hmmm, what's up with the girl's knees?

I do love the fair.  There are so many different things to see.  I love to walk around the barns and 4-H exhibits and am surprised at how much there is to see. I never get bored year after year.  'On Ya' - ma

It looks like the "girl" is actually a doll.

Denis Yates did some beautiful work. I wonder if that contraption Cliff is looking at cuts wood into the right size to burn in heaters or fireplaces, If you are in the arts building probably not though. I prefect real art instead of modern artmyself. I can't make head or tail of that kind of art. Helen

The girl's neck, elbows, wrists and all her joints are the same.  Wish we knew what kind of statement the artist was trying to make here.  ? ? ?

I'm with you.  I don't get those modern paintings.  Give me a nice portrait or landscape any day.

I agree with you on the paintings. I don't like modern art at all. I loved the ones by Dennis Yates. Very beautiful!  Glad you had fun!

The girl reminds me of a wooden puppet with the joints being like that. Looks like y'all had a really nice time. Our state fair won't be til October...but we always go and I always look forward to it.

Wow, how did I miss this journal alert?  I love art and am really inspired by these to do some of my own when I get a day that isn't so busy.  Hugs,
