Osage Orange hedge posts

I imagine I have more pictures than anybody cares to see, but I thinned them out as best I could.  At least I spared you the dozen or more shots of Sadie.  She had a delightful morning running free.

Cliff's friend Tommy recently bought some cattle; he has plenty of land, but none of it is fenced.  He's been looking for some hedge posts to buy for quite awhile, but balked at paying $30 apiece for them.

Hedge (Osage Orange) posts are heavy, strong, and tougher than iron.  They'll outlast any wire you attach to them.

Tommy was after corner posts, which are the strongest point in any fence.  They serve as an anchor for your whole fenceline.

Cliff's brother, Phil, has Osage Orange trees scattered over his eighty acres; so Cliff and Tommy spent the morning cutting posts.

I passed time taking pictures and enjoying my dog.  And removing ticks from myself.

Sounds like a fun morning. I know Sadie had a great time. I have never heard of those kind of trees. I don't guess we have any of those in this area. Helen

Sounds like Sadie & you had quite a day.
For some reason I've not been getting your alerts, so thought I'd pop over & check on you. Guess I'll reset the alerts too. :)
Have a nice Sunday.

Good idea to cut your own instead of paying for em.  Linda

Sounds like you had a very busy, hot day.  After looking at those pictures...I feel as though I might be covered in ticks too.  LOL

I don't blame him for using other methods for posts...$30 a piece.  I couldn't afford that.

I'm glad that you & Sadie enjoyed your day together.

::sigh::  Living out in the boonies like that would be so awesome......  I don't think I'm much of a people person, anyway...

THIRTY DOLLARS??  What?  Is there a shortage of hedge trees now?  My dad would plotz if he heard fence posts were that expensive now.

Ticks... oh I do hate those ticks.... Maggie had one and we had a devil of a time trying to get it out.  Hugs,

This was interesting Donna.  I went to the link and discovered that what my mother used to call mock orange is one and the same as your Osage Orange trees.  I don't believe I ever saw one here ... but enjoyed reading about them.

Nice pictures too.  And yeah, there are always ticks ....
