Grrrrrrrrr

We had wonderful rain all night long, coming down gently.  We've had over three inches so far, and it was much needed.  That's the good news.

I guess the bad news isn't that bad, but when anything interferes with my Internet access, I am not a happy camper!  I woke up this morning to no Internet.  We have Embarq DSL, and I haven't really had a lot of problems with them.  After two or three hours with no Internet access, I decided to call the technical help line.  I got a recording saying they were having difficulty, and couldn't give a time frame in which the problem would be fixed.

OK, fine.  Cliff and I went to do our weekly shopping.  When we got home, there was still no Internet.  I called Embarq again and got the same recording.  Finally I hung on the line until I got hold of a real person.  He said everything looked fine from that end; he was able to detect the modem.  We checked out a few things, nothing worked.  Finally he suggested I bypass the wireless router (the one from HELL, just ask my daughter who spent hours getting it to work before).

The router was the problem.

There is a class action lawsuit against Belkin regarding this, and other models, of their routers.  Meanwhile, it looks like I had better buy myself a different router.  It won't be Belkin this time!

See, this is what is so wonderful about having a journal:  I come on here and vent over some trivial thing.  By the time I'm done, I realize it's not that big a deal, and I feel 100% better.

Life is good after all.

My router is a Lynksis and I never have any problems with it.  Got it at Walmart.  Good luck !

Our cable/internet/phone was out the other day.  I read.... my kids went about their business - Ryan scrapbooked, the boys played their GameBoys......but my brother and sister were sure that the world was coming to an end.  We tried not to laugh.  Hee....

Make sure, when we set up the new one, we put a password on it.  I skipped that step last time (out of frustration) and you need a password.

No internet makes me panic and get claustrophobia.  What did I ever do when all I had was a phone? (and a party line at that)

How frustrating. My personal brand of choice has always been Linksys. I love their products and the wireless router I am using is 4 years old and going strong. :-)

My computer worked just great....oh a glitz once in a while...but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little patience...then hubby got a laptop....and a router was affixed to my computer....and life as I had known it before was never to be again on this computer....and you better believe when it doesn't work properly ... I don't care if it is three in the morning....he gets up to fix it or get it fixed....it is his problem...his fault...and he is the fixer LOLOL....and I know what you mean by venting....I am thankful for my jland friends who listen, read, agree and/or disagree....and it makes my day LOLOL...God Bless...take care....hugs from Ora in KY

In the beginning, I would get mad and frustrated. Now, I realize that computers, the internet, all that was made by humans, and humans are not perfect, never will be, so I figure computers never will be either, or connections to the internet. I do what you did. I just go do something else. Ian has had the new computer at work for three days now trying to fix his blooper with the video card. So, I have to come upstairs to get online..sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. The longer this goes on, the better I learn to deal with it and I am not online as much...which isnt a bad thing necessarily. I get more done that way...lol. Funny how we get so used to having something and when its gone, we get pretty upset about it. I know I do!

LINKSYS is the bomb !  I've had mine for 5 years. No problems to speak of. Son in law is our 'techie' and he recommended the Linksys brand as being very reliable, so we bought what he suggested, since he's the one who fixes our 'puters. Of course, he also tells us that there are many factors to be considered when setting up a network and a lot depends on getting components that work 'together' well. He usually makes adjustments in the OS to make such components work more efficiently. It's those adjustments that I have NO clue how to do. But his fingers fly across the keyboard in lightning speed. And before I know know what's taken place....he's done ! I feel so blessed to have my very own personal computer 'guru'.
