The saga continues

When the granddaughters got here after school, they played with Blondie, and loved her to pieces.  The feelings were mutual.

Until the renter's kids informed them it was their dog, and her name was... I don't remember, something different than Blondie.  Of course the girls were upset, almost to the point of crying.

So I knocked on the renter's door and asked Vickie, "Do you want this dog?"

She answered with a resounding "NO!"

"Well," I told her, "We're getting ready to spend quite a bit of money on her, and I'd surely be glad for you to take that responsibility."

"No, I don't want her."

"Then would you please tell your kids (one enters college this fall) not to torment my granddaughters about whose dog it is?"

"I heard that conversation," she said, "and I talked to them about it."

I told her Blondie can be a neighborhood dog.  I don't care who feeds her scraps and I don't care who plays with her.  Just don't taunt my granddaughters.  If I'm paying the dog's bills, she is MY dog.

So, an hour or so later, I saw Marvin's youngest boy calling Blondie.  When she didn't want to follow him, he picked her up and headed home with her.  As luck would have it, his mom was nearby.  So I confronted her.

"Is that little female dog yours?"  I asked.  I didn't mention that I knew it was a friend of theirs who had dumped the dog.

"No," she answered, as emphatically as Vicki had.  "We have enough dogs!"  (Amen to that, sister.)

So I told her of our plans, and that I'd seen her boy carrying the dog over there.  And she told her kids, right then, to leave the dog alone, that I was going to take care of it.  And said, "I'm so glad you guys are going to take her."

The thing is, all the neighbor kids will have Blondie's company anyhow.  She will have the run of this dead-end road.  Once they realize everybody gains (and good ole Cliff pays the tab), they should all be happy.

And for those of you worrying about Blondie being cold this winter?  You must have forgotten about Mandy's old pen, the one we still use for Sadie sometimes if we're going to be gone all day.  There's a snug nest made out of bales of hay there, and Blondie will fit nicely.

I called you, so you know.  For the rest of the readers, I'll bring her home with me this weekend, and if she's housetrained, we'll keep her, and pay the vet bills. Molly didn't work out, but Kevin really wants another dog (I think he needs medication.) We'll see you this weekend.

I am glad that you got all that straightened out. I didn't forget that you all had a snug place for Mandy to stay but didn't know if you still had it or not. I am glad that you do. Helen

Cute pictures. She is smaller than she looked in the other pictures. I thought she was as big as Sadie.   Definately a keeper. Hope she is with you a long long time!

I've never lived in snow, so admittedly I was concerned about her being too cold in the winter.  But.. I should have known.. you would never let an animal freeze to death..lol   I feel much better now, knowing that she will be warm enough come winter time! :)

Why on earth would anyone worry about any animal you are in charge of?  I'm sorry but that just made me mad.  If they don't know you better than that, they should just read more of your journal entries!  I wish I had the directness you have for dealing with potential problems. You go girl!  Keep em straight!
