on-line window shopping

My last printer quit working some time ago.  Printers don't last long around here, and I'm sure it's because of the dust.  We don't have air conditioning, and the windows are raised, spring through fall.  We live on a gravel road.  Dust everywhere.

I read the reviews at Circuitcity.com, and ended up buying a Hewlett-Packard printer/scanner combo for under $90, tax included; Circuit City doesn't charge for postage, which is a boon to me, as a non-driver living in the boonies.  I can't believe how easy scanning is now:  the previous two scanners I owned were quite difficult to figure out.  With this one, I only need to press a button that says "scan".  Who'd have thought it could be that simple?

So now I'd like a dust-cover for my printer.   I've searched and googled my way around the Internet several times, but with no luck.  Oh, I could get one that would fit my printer on Ebay for twenty-five bucks plus shipping.  Nope.  I'll scotch-tape a hunk of plastic sheeting together before I pay that much!  Looks like next time we're in the city we'll have to actually go into a real-life store.

My other window-shopping today has consisted of my drooling over Dyson vacuum sweepers.  I read quite a few journals and blogs, and it seems every woman who has a Dyson sings its praises.  I'm looking at the best pet-hair model, which I could get today for under $500 with my Kohl's 15% off coupon.  Only I'm not quite ready to make that big an investment.

Anybody have comments about Dyson sweepers?  Anyone know a good place to buy a cheap dust cover?  I'll take all the help I can get.

Sorry, I don't have any idea where to get a printer cover. After reading this I just glanced over at my printer/scanner and it is quite dusty LOL. Probably your best bet would be to cover it up with a trash bag of some sort. I have never heard of that kind of vacumn sweeper. Good luck to you on finding a cover. Helen

I would fall over in a heap before I paid 500 for a vacuum cleaner...LOL i have had many brands over the years.. and not really a dimes worth a difference in any of them that I can see.. the one I have now that my cleaning lady just adores is a Bissell Power force,, came with all attachments and was a whopping 39.99 at Walmart.. so far shes gotten about half her other people to buy one as she likes it so much.. I liked the price...LOL  I figure if it lasts a few years I have my money out of it...

My friend Melissa has 3 cats and a German Shepard (shes divorced w/ 2 boys) and has a purple Dyson. She thinks its the best thing ever. Seriously, she is constantly telling me never to buy another vacuum unless its one of those.....worth its weight in gold she said.

I cannot afford one right now...I suppose I could charge it but then that would be defeating my near debt free living, right?

Y'all do not have AC anywhere? do you have a basement or is it to watery where you live?

I would die w/ out my central AC, when its 110, I gotta have some AC.

I'm absolutely no help, but I do have the dust...cats dogs and a bird.  dust bunnies all over the place.  I do change the filters on the furnace regularly and they need it too !  Course when the furnace isn't running...the fans just circulate the dust.  oh dear, sorry... 'On Ya' - ma

Debs boss has a dyson and doesn't like it. Something about it sucking so hard that you can't pull it across the carpet, and something clogging, though it wasn't the filter. I'll have Deb ask her about it again.

I was looking at the specifications of your new scanner/printer and want to tell you that since I know how to sew(I did upholstery for 8 years)  I would be happy to make you one if you would like.  Email and let me know the color you would like.  I have tons of material too.
Height  6.7 inches
Width  16.8 inches
Depth  10.2 inches
I looked at Dyson's at Costco and decided against it.  I bought a Hoover that is self-propelled and I really like it.  I have to change the bags but that is no biggie.  Works great.

I have no idea where to get a cover that would fit right. In fact, I need one too!! LOL!
I've heard of that vacuum you talk of. I have heard good things about it. I have a Hoover Wind Tunnel. It's self propelled, which is good for my back. And it doesn't use bags. It's a filter and a container that I empty. I love it and it was about $270.  Let us know what you get.

I was going to suggest towels OR, shoot, what's that beige material that my mother used to use?  Uhm ... dang.  Muslin.  My mother used to make dust covers for her VCR and other items from muslin.  Worked well!

As to the Dyson ... my sister has 'The Purple Pet Hair' model, as she calls it and she raves.  In fact, she loves it so much, she calls me when she is going to use it ... just to rub it in that I don't have one.  :(

I have a  hoover bagless now and it really does great on pet hair. Pat is amazed at how much hair gets sucked up in just the livingroom.
Just make a cover out of a pillow case and you can toss it in the washer.

we have friends who board dogs...in their homes....not in kennels....they have as many as ten at any time....they live in England...outside London....and they have a Dyson....said they couln't do it without the Dyson....use it every day...in the evenings....mostly...they swear by it....said they have no problems with dog hairs etc....I personally don't have one...don't really need it...Max doesn't shed...but it would be my pick if it was necessary....go for it girl....and well as for a cover for printer...I don't need one either....but a sheet of plastic...with duck take for corners to make it fit would be just as well as any....maybe at Walmart you could pick up a cheepie....LOL...Hugs from KY...Ora
