Cliff always wanted a beaver farm.

Please forgive me for the subject line.  I couldn't help myself.

I took the dogs to the cabin to let them run, and decided to go see just how deep the water is on the back of our property.  Since I saw, on my ride today, that the railroad tracks were covered,  I already knew our back fence was totally under water.

I had no business going down there:  I had on my best sneakers, I was wearing shorts, and I had no insect repellent on.  I hadn't planned ahead.  So right now I'm probably crawling with ticks, and with all the water standing everywhere, the mosquitoes are out.

Anyhow... As I got down the hill enough to have a good view of the water on our property, I heard the strangest noise.  Sort of like a dog choking, or sneezing.  But both dogs were beside me.  It wasn't them.  The noise was coming from the water.

Something was riling up the water, and then I saw them: beavers swimming around, on my property!  They were so fast, I had trouble even getting one picture.  I believe there were at least four of them... two about half-grown, two full-sized.  The noise I heard was evidently the beavers clearing their nostrils, because every time a head came up from the water, they made the noise.

Sadie began barking, which discouraged them from getting so close.

Poor things, they probably got evicted from the drainage ditch in the flood and are building a new home on our property.  They're going to be disappointed when the water goes down and they've done all that work for nothing.

Maybe you folks are right... I really do have an interesting life.

Watch the news, because TV news helicopters are swarming overhead like bees around a hive.

Wow!  We have beavers living out back in our woods.  I often see one quickly swimming up the brook, but they won't hold still long enough for me to get a shot.  Good shot of yours!!!  I don't know all that much about beavers, but I do recall hearing somewhere that the noise of running water is what makes them build their dams.  I've no idea.

I swear it looks more like an otter but I doubt if otters are native by you.  I have seen beavers in the lake here it is too cool to watch them.

I agree with the previous person's comment. It looks like a river otter to me. They play around in the water. Maybe their den was destroyed. We have a few around here. Helen

You do lead a very exciting life.  Just when you thought it was a little boring with all the rain...look what happens.  Those beavers will be disappointed, but isn't nature amazing?  They didn't let all that water get them down, they just started over again !  'On Ya' - ma

Well, let me say, I will enjoy the rain for awhile. No flooding please. If I wake up tomorrow and see your title says: CLIFF BUILDING ARK.....I guess I'll just stay in the desert.  Man, it's HOT here!   Anne

Great picture! Why the heck am I smiling? I'd probably be annoyed if there were beavers on MY property (and with all the rain we've been getting lately, there just MIGHT be.....)     Jon
