I may never eat out again

About once a month, Cliff and I like to go out for steak.  Outback can't be beat, really, and you get enough food that two can split a meal.  So it isn't so terribly pricey.  But we usually do our eating out on weekdays, at lunchtime.  Because Cliff leaves for work at 2:30.  Outback doesn't open for business until 4 PM on weekdays.

So I was doing a web search for steak in Independence.  I had to laugh when I somehow came up with the Bamboo Hut, because it's a rather disreputable dive of a place that's been there for probably fifty years or more.  Still, somebody gave their steak a good review, while mentioning that you have to breathe cigarette smoke while you're eating there.

I Googled a few other places, and somehow ended up HERE.  It tells the results of all the health inspections for all eating establishments in Independence, Missouri.

The good news is that Outback and Olive Garden scored pretty good.

The bad news is, practically everybody else flunked.  No soap in the employee's men's rest room?  No soap in dishwasher?  Mold growing on walls?  ACK!!!!

I don't think I'm hungry any more.

While we were in Iowa, my aunt took us to a few buffets that my mom and were gagging in.  They were obviously unclean.  It is almost always a crap shoot as to whether a restaurant is clean or not!  Scary

Thankfully, there are some very nice ones.  I love to go out and eat because usually that means I'm with one of my friends or some of my family and that beats eating home alone.  'On Ya' - ma

One of the first things I do when I go into a place I've never eaten before is to check out the bathroom. After working in several food joints, I can assure you that if the bathroom isn't clean, neither is the areas of the stor you can't see. However if it is......usually so is the rest of the store. That's been my experiance anyway, and a few months ago a food critic gave that advice for picking a place to eat too!

Oh, it's a nationwide problem.  I can't tell you how many places I've gone into the ladies room and had to use my sleeve to open the door on the way out -- no paper towels!  Eeeeewwww!

A local tv channel does a report each week telling the high scores and the low scores from the health department checks on local restaurants.  I say a little prayer each week that our favorites won't get low scores.  C.Y. would never eat there again if they get low scores.

I'd rather not know the health inspection status of the places where I eat. If I did, I'd never eat out again. As long as I don't see any rats scurrying around on the floor, I'll take a chance. I used to work in a hospital kitchen MANY years ago. Talk about unsanitary conditions..........wow, could I tell some stories......(lol)  Jon

I could have guessed this. Almost every time we eat out I get the runs...really.  Drive through MickeyD's to the finest places, I get sick.

My daughter worked in a place and they know when inspections are. A lot of times you do not know about the failing scores because the place has a chance to fix it. Sometimes the failure is not for something bad with the food! It can be a broom in the wrong place.
