about "posting" your property

People suggest "no tresspassing" signs at the edges of our property.  We've done that.  People enjoy tearing them down and throwing them on the ground, and they also enjoy using them for target practice.  There is one method of "posting" property that is supposed to be legal.  It wouldn't be too expensive or difficult.  Click HERE to read about it

Oh, somebody suggested electric fence around the property.  Obviously you've never dealt with electric fence:  In the first place, it's simple to lie down and crawl under it.  In the second place, electric fence must be closely maintained.  If branches fall on it, or weeds grow up on it, it no longer shocks.  We're talking "in the woods" here, folks.  Oh, and anybody with a pair of pliers with insulated handles could cut the fence.  Electric fence is not a workable solution.

The thing is, even posting would do no good.  It's one of the Redneck's inalienable rights:  You can go anywhere you want to when you're hunting mushrooms.  I think maybe it's stuck in amongst the Ten Commandments someplace.  They might see the purple paint and be a little bit sneakier, but they wouldn't stop coming.

Yes, I do catch people all the time.  But most are strangers to me, so how would I know who to take to court?  Unless it was Marvin; and do I really want to take my next-door neighbor to court?  Would you?

I had to chuckle at the suggestion of the electric fence!  What a mess that would be!

Hope y'all know I was being facetious suggesting the electric fence.   I know that would not be feasible  .. just meant t'would be a fun sight watching trespassers get  'zapped' upon stepping foot on the property.   Hey, just electrify all the morels, yeah .. that'll do it!  hahahaha ..  Judy

Okay...this is going to sound stupid....what do they do with the morels...eat them??Please be careful out there alone.  I hope your trip was fun for everyone!  Happy Easter!

Why put "No Trespassing"? - that's something they'd obviously ignore anyhow.  What about "High voltage area", or "We are not responsible for snake bites, poisonous mushrooms or RANDOMLY FIRED PAINT BALL GUNS". Or maybe "Warning Cotton mouth Breeding Area". Maybe it wouldn't fool Marvin, but someone not familar with the area might believe it....

The offense would have to be something far more chilling and upsetting than tresspassing and taking my morels ... for me to take the time to either hire and attorney and take someone to court or do it myself in small claims.

It's not that I don't think tresspassing and/or stealing is right.  I don't.  But I have so many other things to attend to, I think I'd rather just keep trying to get along and get through it.

Hey Mosie, I have a pecan tree in my back yard. Every year we have a lot of pecans which we sell and keep...One year, I looked out my window and saw one of the neighbors from down the street out in my back yard with a big bag picking up my pecans! lol I walked around back and said, "hi. what are you doing?"...She said I am picking up pecans. I said those are out pecans and we pick them up to sell. she never answered me but kept right on picking up my pecans putting them in her sack. This pissed me off good fashion...so I trot myself back into the hosue and called 911. Told them someone was stealing my nuts! lol and I had a police over here within 5 minutes. They gave her a criminal tresspass warnig that if she evr came back on my land that she would be arrested and then they made her leave...without her bag with my nutrs in it.!!!! Had she asked e I would have gladly told her it was ok to get her some pecans for a pie, etc...but she was picking them up in this huge bag to SELL!!! I can not stand for someone to brasenly stand before me and steal my stuff! lol
If I were you, I would take my cell phone with me on my walks and tell the thieves that I was calling the law.
love ya,
carlene
