Stinky dog

Sadie got a bath today; the second one this week.  Now, normally she goes for weeks and weeks with no bath; she lives in the house with us, and she isn't a stinky dog by nature.  But since spring has made its appearance, it looks like I'd better get used to bathing my dog often.

When we take our walk in the pasture, I turn her loose.  Sadie literally lives for these times.  She gets to choose where she pees or poops.  Oh, the freedom!  She can chase birds and squirrels and scare up wild turkeys.  She can sniff whenever and wherever she wants, for as long as she wants.

And she can roll.

There is something terrible-smelling in the woods... I don't know what it is, it smells like nothing else in the world... that Sadie has rolled in twice this week.  It's pungent, and it's awful:  I'd almost say it's worse-smelling than carrion, which she also enjoys rolling in.  If I see her at a distance on her back, rolling vigorously, I yell "no", and she stops.  But she's out of my sight a lot, back there.

So it looks like, unless Sadie somehow figures out that the stink is the direct cause of the hated bath she gets later, I'm going to have the most-frequently-bathed dog in the county.

We took Peaches (our Labradoodle) to get groom today.  She's been outside a lot lately as well, and she is an indoor dog.  We usually get her done every month.

MUCH BETTER!!

Our Boxer is a mud dog. If there is a puddle to be found, that is where he is. It makes for lots of doggie baths!

It might be something dead. maybe you can get closer and find out?

Maybe you should check out the place where she is wallowing. We had a poodle once who like to wallow in green manure. I had to watch her when I let her out to keep her from going into the pasture where there were cows. Now that stinks, LOL. Helen

My dog likes TURKEY poop.  Ick.  Rolls and rolls given the opportunity.  So, Sadie is a member of a very special club.  LOL

I hope she gets over that, but I do know what you mean...my beagle often finds something stinky to roll in that is right in my own little back yard.  Nasty stuff.  When I look I can never find anything, but it does stink too !  'On Ya' - ma

Maybe some kind of varmint poop - they do love possum and raccoon poop for rolling. You said it's not something dead, right? The smellier the better seems to be the dog credo. Molly doesn't roll in goose poop - she eats it. Big treat!

Oh nothing worse than a stinky dog!  Linda

Ohh what fun she is having...why do dogs like the stinkiest most putride things? From rolling in dead things to eating horse poo, I just don't get it...yuck. We love em anyway though.

I will never understand that about dogs.

I sure do miss having a dog.  We are really looking forward to getting one... and a cat.  So glad Sadie likes her time outdoors.  Hugs,

good luck
my scooby doo seems to have a nose for dead things....my best bet is to find it, double bag it, and get rid of it.   otherwise I would be bathing the dog constantly, or banishing the poor canine to the garage, and I don't have the heart to do that to a "family" pet.
