I broke my digital camera

Yes, I did.  When I was in the yard with Secret day before yesterday, I had my little Canon in my coat pocket (it's usually in some pocket or other).  It was quite warm, in the sixties, and I removed my coat, figuring to sit on it while Secret grazed.  As I went down on one knee, I knew immediately that knee had landed squarely on my camera.

When I turned it on, I saw that I'd ruined the LCD screen.  I then took the movie of Secret grazing (a couple of entries down) to see if the camera still worked.  Obviously, it does.

However, I can't preview pictures now, or delete them from my camera (I can delete them from the card, VIA computer).  I can't change settings, because you read the settings on the LCD screen.  All I can do with it is point and shoot.

So I'll soon be buying a new one exactly like my old one, only it will be 600 megapixels rather than 400.  I'll use the old one for horseback rides, motorcycle rides, and other places where it gets tossed carelessly about.

I'm really hoping the same battery packs and cards will work in the new one.  Anybody know?

I have no idea about the battery packs and such.   Sorry you broke your camera.  I did something to mine too because now it won't zoom in or out.  UGH!

Aw, sorry to hear about your camera Donna. The battery and SD cards from your SD400 will work in your 'new' camera. I went to the Canon site and read under the 'specifications' tab. The 'spec's' say the 400 and 600 use the same card and battery. Take care and keep the pictures comin' !

We broke ours and because it was still under warranty (by a week!) we were able to send it to a camera repair shop.  I was glad...I love my camera...I'd hate to have to get used to a new one....

You can always replace a camera, so how is your knee?  OUCH, that hurt I am sure.   Anne

BUMMER!  Been there; done that. It seems like a door has shut when your camera dies.  I see that you got the answer about transferring parts.  MORE megapixels; you get to fill up your  hard-drive faster!
They keep making stuff better & better ... I'm sure you'll love  your new camera.  Sometimes, when outside, I clip my camera to a lanyard that hangs it on my neck ... keep it tucked inside my clothes.

I really need to get the camera out and share pics of the new house.  I just need to wait for the mountain of laundry to fold itself or take pics around it. LOL.  Hugs,
Lisa
