stumped again

We received Cliff's XM radio setup today.  I went online and activated it, then we went to the grocery store.  A local store, by the way, because a fellow blogger suggests we accommodate our home-town businesses.  So of course I didn't find half the items I needed.  But I digress.

We arrived back home to find no action on our XM radio.  Well, that's par for the course.  Thank goodness there's an 800 number.  I called that, and they re-sent the activation, or something like that.  I waited twenty minutes as instructed.  Still no action.

I called the 800 number once more, this time talking to a real person whose phone was cutting out so badly, I couldn't make out a thing he was saying.  I hung up.

After stewing for awhile, I called yet again.  This time I got a lady who spoke nice and loud, thank you very much, and whose phone did not cut out.  The only problem was that she was obviously in India, and her accent made her quite difficult to understand.  She gave me the same instructions I had received before, and once again, I complied.  I am right now waiting for twenty minutes to expire.  Do I expect the radio to work this time?  Nope.

But my daughter is off work tomorrow.  And she's great with tech support people!

I am not good with tech support people either, especially if they are located in India. Why can't manufactures keep thier support here where we can underand them and they can understand us? Hope your daughter can get it sorted out tomorrow if it fails to activate this time for you. Helen

Hello Mosie:
This is my first time commenting on a blog although I've enjoyed yours for several months. Being a Texian transplanted from Missouri some 30+ years ago. I enjoy your Missouri outlook and love the pictures.
Oh yes, for the comment that brought me to write you. I too get very upset with the foreign accents that we have in so many customer services these days. I used to hang up but now I have a different approach. When they say hello I ask them to wait and listen very carefully Untill I explain my situation If they try to interupt I caution them to please wait.Speaking very slowly I explain I am a 80+ year old (not really but that gets their attention!) with a hearing problem and no techicnal skills so if they would like to transfer me to an appropiate person to handle my problem I would be happy to wait. You would be suprised how quickly they transfer my Problem! Many times I get someone I may be able to understand. One support person was even nice enough to give me the hours you were more likely to get Americian operators! Thought you might like this tip & a laugh!
XM is great once it operates. Tell Cliff to check out Willies Place. It's that down home country I'm sure he'll enjoy! Good Luck !

Is XM radio the same as satelite radio?  I know much less than you do... :>)  Sandra

I too am tired of calling companies to speak to India.  It's not that I have anything against India.  They are wonderful people even though I am convinced the country is mostly heathen as my grandparents would say being ministers.  Don't take that statement to heart, it's my nature being a pastor's granddaughter to say such things.  Anyhow, I just simply can't understand what they are saying.  Their English is beyond horrible.  It is absolutely awful that this is happening to America.  We need these jobs over here for our own people.  I do wish our companies would stop putting call centers over there.  I'd like to end my association with all companies who have a call center in a foreign country.  It is not patriotic at all.  It is simply an abomination.  So very frustrating and a fine topic for a journal entry.  I do hope you are able to find a tech you can at least understand properly.

Mine took longer than the 20 minutes they say it will take. You are able to here the channel 1 working, right? If not, you don't have signal.

I'm definitely not in the 21st century yet. Heck, I think I'm still in the 19th century. I liked life better when it was blissfully SIMPLE. Guess I'm a quill, scroll, & candlelight kind of guy.....   Jon
