Conversation with my granddaughters

Monica:  "Grandma, can I have a sheet of printer paper?  I want to draw."

Me:  "If there is any, you can.  OK, there's some here.  My printer doesn't work, so who cares; use it all.  When we get our income tax refund, I'm getting me a new printer-scanner."

Monica:  "How much are you getting back?"

Me:  "$2,400"

Natalie:  "Can I have some of it?"

Monica:  "Will you buy me something?"

Me:  "Most of it's going into savings for our vacation next summer.  Are your parents getting a nice refund back?"

Monica:  "I don't know, I'm not in charge of our finances."  (she's 11 years old, by the way)

Me:  "Oh."

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!  You go, Monica.

As a kid I never understood why any extra money left wasn't used to buy me some Hot Wheels.  I had NO concept of money.  When mom got change back at the grocery checkout I thought that was just free money!

I used to encourage my daughter to draw too - anything that didn't involve a toy with batteries. Use that imagination - develop it :)
