poor horses

Cliff went out to check on the animals and found Blue stranded, downhill from the others.  It's so slick out there, the horses can't walk without slipping and sliding.  Cliff coaxed Blue up with the others somehow, but then he had to figure out what to do about water for all of them.  Even though the in-ground waterer isn't far from where the horses are, there's no way they'd be able to get to it with the ice on the ground; and if they tried, they could fall and injure themselves.

So, my poor husband had to thaw out an outside hydrant, get a stock tank turned right-side up, run an extension cord and a stock-tank heater to the tank, and fill it.  The horses can't get to their big bale feeder, either.  Until the ice is gone, they'll be getting alfalfa, the small bales.

I bundled up and helped him some, but my goodness it's treacherous!  The granddaughters both played outside for an hour or so, slipping and sliding, even though the temperature is 15 degrees.

Cliff isn't going to work today; the guy he rides with is sick, and our Grand Marquis is helpless on wintry roads.

I am so glad he is not going to work today! I know you would be worried the whole time if he did.
The poor babies. Be sure to check their feet for ice.

Poor Cliff, thanks goodness he was able to get Blue back with the others. I bet Cliff and you were frozen after doing all that outside work. You both are lucky that you didn't slide down and break some bones. I hope all that ice melts soon. Helen

Hope that Ice melts soon for you all.  Be careful...I know how dangerous the ice can be. Last winter I hit a patch of ice going out of church and was flat on my back before I knew what happened. Luckily nothing was hurt but my pride.  I hope you all stay safe.  'On Ya' - ma

Sure sounds like hot co-co weather to me.  I used to go out with our youngest because he had noone else to play with.  Don't mind the cold if there is a warm fire to come home to.

The weather has been predicting all morning that your mess is heading my way! So far we've been enjoying the 60's and 50's but judging from your last 3 entries that may be about to end.
