my Aunt Gladys

Today we went to my family reunion... my mom's side of the family.  But since my dad's only living sibling lives in a nursing home in the same town in which the reunion was held, we stopped to see Aunt Gladys.

Aunt Gladys is the youngest sibling, and Daddy's only sister.  Their mother died in childbirth, and Gladys, a very young girl at the time, was left to cook and clean and take care of her dad and her four older brothers.

This lady is one of the funniest people you'll ever meet, even though she's pretty much blind, and, since her stroke, confined to a wheel chair.

I see my daddy in her face.

Dang, it's sad to see the aunts and uncles on both sides mostly gone.

My generation is next to shuffle off this mortal coil.  (That's a semi-quote from Shakespeare's "Hamlet"... click HERE to see the whole soliloquie from which it comes.)

I had a Aunt Glady's too! (That was really her name).  She was the sweetest lady... and was so young at heart, right up until her death at the age of 95.  She was something, she was.

I hear you about being the next generation to leave this mortal coil.  Time it sure does pass quickly, doesn't it?

Hugs,
Jackie

Hi Mosie,
Your aunt Gladys looks like she can be a pistol!!! Bless her heart, having to be mama when she was just a litttle bitty girl and needing one...so sad...but she looks like she could do a good job of it though!
Danny's mama's name is Gladys!
That is a real good picture of you and your aunt too.
love ya,

Great picture. Bless your heart for going to see her. She was a big hearted person to take care of her family like that. Have a great day. I saw the good picture of you and Blue in Stevie's movie. Helen

yes, it is sad to see them go...and to think we are now the older generation.  It looks like she was very happy to see you !  What a wonderful smile.  Both of you have wonderful smiles.  All we can hope is that when we are her age, there will be someone there to smile with us.  'On Ya' - ma

I adore the picture I have of my dad with his four siblings.   How time does tick away and leave us with memories!    Enjoy your Aunt, it is good for her Also.

she looks like a wonderful woman; I love the look on her face, like she is enjoying your visit and life in general.

I know what you mean when aunts/uncles die off.  My mom is the last of ten in her family; but all lived to be at least in their 80s, some into their 90s

You must look like your Dad.  You and your aunt seem to have some features alike. (forehead, cheekbones, etc.)  What a wonderful thing to still have someone around that knows family history.
