A cell phone, finally

Those who know me well know that I don't care to talk on the telephone.  I just don't do small talk well, and that's what most phone conversations seem to be about.

Several years ago I got Cliff a cell phone for Christmas.  He uses it quite a bit, especially to talk to his siblings.  I've never really had a desire to have one of my own, though.

Cliff is rather technically challenged, so he usually has grandchildren add new phone numbers for him, figure out any problems he's having with it, and so forth.  Our daughter has patiently explained certain proper ways to do things with that phone, and Cliff has promptly forgotten each tip.

This morning I ordered myself a cell phone, and we're getting on a family plan.  Maybe I'll learn enough to help Cliff out of these tight spots.  Or perhaps there will be two of us begging grandchildren for help.  Time will tell.

My main reason for getting a phone of my own is so I can call Cliff.  See, if he's out in the pasture and I want to tell him dinner's ready, I've always been able to call his cell from our house phone... but it's a long-distance call!  Out here in the boonies, any number that doesn't have the same prefix as ours is long-distance.

Another way it'll come in handy is at those times when Cliff and I get seperated in a crowd, whether it's at a big Walmart, a tractor show, or a state fair.

Yes, I have finally joined the twenty-first century.  I'm even a little bit excited about it.

I don't talk on the phone much either but sometime I suppose cell phones do come in handy... we don't have one because if I did I would promptly forget about having it and never use it I'm afraid... I suppose you have to start using it and making it a habit  or something like that... Have fun with yours and hope you end up liking it. Sandra

I love my cell phone too-don't use it much, but you are soooo right .  It comes in very handy when you want to reach them and save lots of running around trying to catch up with them. Now when you go to your cabin in the woods you can take it there too !  'On Ya' - ma

When Kevin and I are out shopping, he goes his way, I go mine.  The cells always come in handy when we need to find each other. LOL.

they are wonderful conveniences; but I'm like you, I don't care to talk on the phone either. But to keep in touch with my teen, a cell phone is very essential. Welcome to the 21st century!

Donna....those cell phones are soooo handy for locating 'lost' husbands in Wal-Mart !  LOL. Bill hates to carry his cell phone, but he takes it when we go shopping, just in case we get 'lost' in different departments. Ever since I gave a 'page' over the intercom once....."Billy, your mama is waiting at the front of the store".

You'll love it and then you'll wonder how you lived without it! LOL!
This year I got rid of my land line and only use my cell phone.  I'm never home anymore anyway.  Hope you enjoy it.

It's a really good safety net.  My 85 yo Mother has one that she only turns on when SHE wants to make a call.  She leaves it in her car at all times.  I can't get in touch with her but she has it if she needs help which was the whole purpose of getting it in the first place.

Well welcome to the world of cell phones, Donna!  I actually got rid of my regular home phone, because I hated paying two phone bills.  My cell phone bill was enough, thank you very much! lol

Well, we had to get TheTeen a cell phone.  I love it b/c I can call her Verizon to Verizon anytime free, and I can tell her I'm pulling into the school parking lot.  And of course she is thrilled and text messaging away to friends.  Yep we bought the 500 text messages a month deal.  How can they do that?  I don't like typing on phone keys.
I am sure you all will enjoy the cell phone abilities.

Congrats!  Enjoy your phone.  You'll soon wonder how you ever made it without it.  You would not believe how many times my husband and I have used it in Wal-Mart and similar places!
