HENBIT

I do believe one of my readers came up with the name of the weed:  It's henbit.  Click HERE to read about it.  You can see pictures of the leaves and flowers.

I believe this is correct. I looked up chickweed on here and it is not the same.

I had that all over my back yard this spring. Now that the grass has been mowed there is no sign of it. I once took a closeup of it but can't find the year I put it. Probably one of my cd's where I stored it. It is pretty closeup. Looks like a miniture snapdragon. A lady that works at the local paper added the name of it when I put it in the picture gallery. There has been flields of it around here this spring. Helen

Thank you for settling an argument I was having with D! He told me I should drive up toward Belton and see the fields turning purple; I replied I saw them do that every year--and that it was Henbit! Then showed him a little cluster of them by the sidewalk. He swore that something so small could never turn an entire field purple. I told him it could, and did. Now I have proof--and you've provided it!
I really enjoy being right every once in awhile!
