Wednesday diet report

Cliff lost five pounds this past week!  Woooo hooooo!!!!  He's now 246.  (He was 277 in December when we started this.)  And I didn't do so bad either.  I lost three pounds, which puts me at 163 1/2 pounds now; I started at 188.

Every once in a while someone will ask what sort of diet we're on.  It's a combination of portion control and lower-fat foods.  No food is off-limits to us, so if I have a craving for Mexican food, we go to our favorite Mexican place and split one meal between the two of us.  And I've noticed we leave the place quite satisfied.  I've also learned to order water instead of tea or cola, and we save a fortune when we eat out:  one meal instead of two, and no charge for my drink.

All week long, I try to stick to relatively low-fat recipes and meals, still using portion control.  On weekends I often cook for company at least one meal, and often two; and that's usually high-fat, high-carb farm-style cooking.  I remind Cliff ahead of time that he'll be on his own, and he's been doing great at stopping with one serving.  But if he weakens, I do my best to keep my mouth shut about it.

There is one food I personally am avoiding because it is such a huge weakness of mine.  My favorite place to have lunch is Pizza Hut, when they have the all-you-can-eat buffet.  I've promised myself not to do buffets any more, unless I'm with a group, and have no choice... in which case I'll limit myself to one plate.  I think I'll have a personal pan pizza before too long, when the craving for pizza gets so strong I can't resist it.  In other words, I plan ahead, because I know my own weaknesses.

I aim for eight glasses of water a day, but I don't always make it.  We still take our half-hour walk in the pasture together.  My recently-acquired dog, Sadie, gets me out of my computer chair and outside, too.  She burns energy, I burn calories.

Cliff and I agree, we can do this forever.

WOOP WOOP!!!! Congrats on cont to drop lbs!!!!! Both of you!
I think your plan is right on the money! Portion control is the main thing!
I'm with you on the water too...still trying to get in that 8 a day. But so hard for me, I can usually manage 4 if I try REALLY hard. Have made it to 8 a few times, but not many...:-(
Ordered my halti, hasn't came yet, can't wait to try it, hope it fits!
have a good rest of the week!

Seems to me your diet method makes the most sense.  Here we eat as much low fat and lower carb as we can but do allow favorites in -- in moderation.  With exercise I do well.  I could starve myself but if I don't exercise I get nowhere fast!  Congrats to both of you on this weeks good work!

Good for you... I am still working out a plan that is good for me..Yesterday when I weighed I was down a pound and today its back... the whole week went that way so it must mean I have to find a better plan... more exercise I think might do it. You both are doing great with the plan you made for yourself ... my husband is too thin so he is always trying to gain... you keep posting and I will keep trying. Sandra

I totally agree with your diet. It's basically what I did and it worked great and I never felt deprived. As a matter of fact, I think I ate more and lost weight. : )
Low fat really does the trick for me too. I love my carbs and I kept on eating them. I don't have much energy without carbs and meats.

John and I have learned to split meals too and it works great most time. I think it is easy to get into the habit of eating too much. I'm doing the water thing a lot too as the caffene keeps me awake if I drink it too late and they do charge an arm and a leg for iced tea. Good job you two are doing. Paula

Oh you are an inspiration.  After trying on clothes today and going up a size I was a bit depressed.   Hubby and I have talked of going on a diet AFTER vacation.  So possibly we will be munching on carrots in about a week.  We just need to eat better and like you all....less portions.  Katy and I split plates.  Hubby likes to have his own.  He's not ready to split yet.  LOL>
So congrats to you all.  Keep it up.

Donna, the reason you and Cliff can "do this forever" is because you are doing it forever, and you haven't just gone on a "diet".. you've changed your lifestyle.  Changing your lifestyle is the key.. :)

I'm so happy for your's and Cliffs success!!
