Fertilizer day

It was time to fertilize the pasture, so Cliff and I went in the pickup to get the buggy with the goodies in it.  Now, you city folks might think manure is used as fertilizer in the country; on big farm operations, sometimes it is utilized.  But this is the white granular stuff, just like you'd use to fertilize your yard. I'm praying we get rain soon, so all this won't be wasted.

Yesterday I had a scratchy throat and felt a little "peaked", as my mom used to say.  I figured I was getting a cold; since I've only had one this winter, I'm due one more.  This morning I woke up at 4 AM with the worst sore throat I've had in years.  I had a cup of orange juice and two aspirins, and then happened to remember that we had some Chloraseptic in the bathroom.  Ah, instant relief.

When my daughter arrived with the girls, I told her about using the Chloraseptic, although I was sure it was four or five years old.  She mentioned an expiration date being on some meds, so I checked.  Good grief!  The stuff is over seven years old!  Hey, it still works fine, and doesn't taste any nastier than it ever did.

That goes to show how seldom we get sick around here.

I wouldn't say I'm "sick" today:  My definition of sick is that you have to have a fever or be vomiting, or both.  If I had a job right now, this sore throat wouldn't have kept me home.

I believe I'll be feeling much better tomorrow.

Even if you aren't technically sick, I do hope your soar throat is better tomorrow.  I know that sounds about how we decided if someone needed medical attention....is there a high fever you can't bring down?  Is there severe coughing and difficulty breathing?  Are you bleeding and will it take more than a bandaid to stop it?  Hubby's family would actually take white clay and rub it into open wounds to seal it and heal it.  And I have used spider-web to stop bleeding.  Oh, well, back to housework.  -  Barbara

Hope the "outdated meds" LOL..heal the sore throat fast...and hope you get the rain that is needed...it is dry here also....but because of the warming weather my flowers are coming up....have tulips and daffydils up about ten inches...and my forsythia bush is blooming....if we get a freeze as we did about four years ago...they will be shot down for the blooming season...oh well such is life of a "city farmer" LOL...Hugs...Ora

Hope your throat feels better. I really don't think that Chloraseptic can taste any nastier not matter how old!

If you were living here today you wouldn't be fertilizing as the wind is blowing really hard. It blew the boat cover about half way off and it's under the carport so Ken tied it down. Hope your sore throat gets better soon. That's the way my cold always starts with the sinus drainage making my throat sore and then it goes to my lungs or where ever it goes to make me cough really bad, maybe the bronchial tubes. Helen

Try a half glass of warm water with a 1/2 teaspoon of salt and gargle every four hours or so. That should get rid of it.

Feel better,
Angela

Chloraseptic is a wonderful spray for the throat.... I never really looked at ours either but just get a new one when the old one looks old. lol   or gets to the bottom.... think I have only had 3 or 4 in all the years though..... it is always kept in the refrigerator here at our house..... along with our pink medicine.... wonder if that expires too... funny they are still working isn't it?  Did Cliff ever get the tractor painted?   hope your throat is better tomorrow or sooner. Thats great that you two don't get sick often. We get all the cedar pollen etc. from the hill country. I didn't even have a doctor in my 40's and 50's because I didn't need one. Wish I could say the same for now. My daughter went through my medicine chest once and threw away all my outdated stuff. Happy fertilizing, Paula

I was just reading in the local paper that in a town near hear they can't spread because all the well are contaminated and the river has run off.  They have to wait until the snow is gone and no rain predicted.  That could be July.  It's always something.  Pixie Sticks...remember, those paper straws that were filled with that sour powder.  You would break off one end throw your head back and let it drain into your mouth....then gage and have a coughing fit cause it was sooooo sour.  Oh, the great fun of youth.  For sore throats we got to use my grandpa's recipe and I still use it today.  Mix equal part of lemon and honey and a bit of whiskey.  Although I saw the trick about gargleing with salt, that works good too.  Nothing like a store bought remedy though, even if it expired five years ago.  LOL Janice
