Sadie meets the cat

Our latest-acquired barn cat, although only half grown, has real guts.  Even Cliff, who is not an admirer of cats in general, likes this one (at a distance, of course).  It was fun to see Sadie getting acquainted with him.

I'd like to feature the place from which we adopted Sadie, Wayside Waifs

I was so impressed with the genuine love shown by the staff to their charges.

The lady who took Sadie out of her cage and then watched us petting her, and how she responded to our attention, actually got teary-eyed.  It was very touching.

The lady who interviewed us was the same sort:  she almost got emotional talking about the animals that pass through their doors.  She said she has twelve cats at home, and told us how hard it is to see the reality at Wayside Waifs:  some 7,000 cats pass through each year, and only a small percentage of them get adopted.  Cats, she told us, don't do as well in confinement there, while waiting for someone to adopt them.

She said they don't have a "kill date" like some shelters and pounds; if the animal seems to be adoptable at all, they give it as long as it takes.

"Of course," she said, "we don't have many people who come in asking for a fourteen-year-old dog with liver cancer; in cases like that, the kindest thing to do is euthanize the animal."

Anyway, I'm giving them a plug:  if some of my readers love animals and want to donate to a good cause, I couldn't possibly recommend a better one.  Again, here's their website:  WAYSIDE WAIFS.

Cute pictures. Guess that shows she's not a cat chaser. Bet she enjoyed the freedom of that walk with you and Cliff. Helen

I'm glad to see Sadie is settling in her new envirnment.  Even though I'm in PA, I still checked out the website.  It seems like a wonderful place.

Love the pics!!!! So cute! :0)
Yes, I donate to the HSUS on a reg basis, I'm a member with them!
My granddaughter volunteers at the shelter here on a monthly basis. And I buy cheap dog food & kitty food & litter & take to them every chance I get!
Everyone needs to donate...money, time, food, etc. SOMETHING
And please all remember when you go to buy a pet, please check with a shelter first!!!!!!!! There's sooo many great animals there.
And all please remember to spay & neuter. So we can help to stop all the unwanted animals in the world.

Mosie, she's adorable.  She looks like she has one sock rolled up and one rolled down.  She doesn't look so scared today.

Bless you Mo for mentioning Wayside Waifs. It's such a wonderful place, as is Animal Haven.  It looks like Sadie is getting to know you and your area. Now how could you not love a dog like that?   Anne

When we lived on the ranch I wanted some barn cats. My neice's husband gave me a cat and guaranted she would have kittens right on time. She never had a one. My daughter and brother always adopt from places like you mentioned but a cat always seems to find me if I need one or not. Paula

I think if I lived near you I would go and get that sweet little cat I saw... Part siamese I think she was... I had a cat that looked like her and she was the sweetest cat but she didn't live nearly long enough.... someone abused her when she was young so I was lucky to have her for the 8 years I did.... We have a nice place here in town too. Sandra

it's so funny... that a dog doesn't know what to do when a cat doesn't run away from them lol...
