The most controversial post I've ever made

I support our troops.  My son was in the Army for several years, and I'm proud of his service to our country.  I believe in America.

But we need to get out of this war in Iraq.

I hadn't really made up my mind until I watched this DVD, "DEAR AMERICA... Letters Home From Vietman", for the first time in many years; I was touched by it several years ago when it was shown on PBS.

So I recently bought the DVD at half.com.

Folks, I do not cry easily, but these scenes had me on the verge of tears all the time I was watching.

Buy it, rent it... whatever you have to do.  But see this old PBS special that shows footage from the Vietnam conflict, with actors reading letters that real soldiers wrote home to their loved ones.  Look at the faces.  Listen to their words.

Your life will be changed.

I support our troops too but I was AGAINST the war in Iraq from before it began. It just made no sense. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11 and now we have terrorists blooming there that weren't there before. I don't even watch the news anymore. I get to aggravated.

Oh Mo, Vietnam still affects me. My husband was drafted when I was 19 and we had just had our first child. Since my husband did not have a high rank, I was pushed to the back on the line at the PX and we lived in terrible poverty.  When we got home, after his time, I was spit at for having a husband in the war. ALSO, I lost my  friend who happened to be my very first first boyfriend, when he did his duty in Vietnam. He stepped on a land mine and was killed instantly. It's all still painful to me and I know I would cry if I watched it.  Maybe oneday......glad you reccommended it to others though.

War is an ugly thing that is for sure.

Don't worry -- this won't make you a liberal.  You're a thoughtful human and thoughtful humans don't want to see human suffering.  I read a story today that said that American casualties in Iraq (from torso shots) would have been 82% less if the body armour was made with technology we've had for years.  It's so awful that I can't pin down a single identifiable emotion.  grief?  anger?  madness? BRING OUR TROOPS HOME!!!!!

I will go find it.

No war is ever good.  If we spent all the $$$ on making peace and the world a better place - it would be better.  'ON YA' - ma

Mosie, you expressed your opinion, isn't that what this country is all about? Unfortunately, with this Administration "spying" on us, you'll probably end up with a "wire tap" on your phone & computer. God Bless America!! rich

I have never heard of this movie, but I know if you are recommending it, then it must be good.  I will seek it out this weekend!
