Mandy has a new doctor

We got a postcard from the animal hospital a couple of months ago telling us that Mandy was due for her booster shots.  Tony, across the road, can give all the doggie shots except rabies.  That one has to be obtained at a veterinarian's office.

The last time Mandy was there for her shots, we were rather miffed that we were charged $20 for a "check-up".  That consisted of the vet listening to her heart with a stethoscope.

So Cliff asked me to call the same vet today, and find out how much it would cost to get Mandy's shots.  I was told that would be $44, all totaled.

"How much is the rabies shot alone?"  I asked.  "Mandy is healthy and doesn't need the checkup."

"Oh, the checkup is required," the lady replied.  "And it's $20."

So I called another vet in a more rural area.  We can walk in there, get Mandy's shot, and leave.  $14.

Yes, Mandy has a new doc.

my daughter has complained about this same problem but it isn't convienent for her to take several cats and a hyper dog out of the city so she pays. Paula

Good for you.  I've had the same problem here.  You have to watch or they'll add all kinds of "hidden" fees.

My vet charges $12 for shot and that is it.

In TN they have 3 weekends in April that you can drive through and get your animals shots.  The clinic is called a rabies clinic and it is to encourage everyone to at least get the rabies shots (it is the law but many people will ignore it). The shots are $10.00 and we take our dog and cat. You also have the option (at our vet at least) to get ALL the shots for just the cost of the shots. When I lived in Illinois they didn't have this and you had to pay for a office visit also.

I wish we had more rural vets around here.  No matter what I take my pets to the vet for, I get charged a $50 office visit.  That's not including the shots!!

Here where I live they have a pet day in town and we can get our dogs shots for 5 dollars.  And then you have to pay 1 dollar for a city tag.  There is a long line of animals all checking each other out, but it's worth the money you save.  Good for you changing vets. I mean it is the same shot for less money.  It's bad enough that the doctors for us cost 75 a pop unless you get a shot and then it is 100 dollars.  Can't afford to get sick around here!!! Barbara

Pet care is high around here also. We had just changed Doctors with Jake when we had to put him down. We would have kept the new Doctor though. It pays to shop around. Helen

Congratulations!!!  You did good!!!  Don't just take it lying down.  We get run over enough with everyone's self serving rules.  Again "BRAVO".
