Just a quick little story

I usually bring my dog, Mandy, inside for the evening, and then take her to her pen at 8 PM or so.  Unless she lets me know she wants to go to bed sooner.  I shut her in the pen so I don't have to worry about her running around at night.  She has a nice, snug bed there, with hay bales for walls, and loose hay for her mattress.  She crawls in happily, as snug as a bug in a rug.

After our next-door neighbors' house burned, I've been feeding their dog, Buddy (Mandy's best friend).  Well, I was already feeding him.  But now I'm feeding him more, because they aren't here; I told them not to worry about him, I'd take care of him.

It's funny how I started out hating that silly hound dog, and now I love him.

So tonight, Mandy let me know it was her bedtime.  I walked her out to the barn and shut the door to her pen behind her... and then I saw movement in the cave she calls home.  It looked like there was something white in there.  And she hesitated at the opening, and wouldn't go in.

Buddy has not only accepted this as his home;  he's decided to take over Mandy's bed.

I coaxed him out and told him to go sleep in his usual spot on the hay, in our barn.  He followed me to the house, looking sad.  So I gave him a dog biscuit.  Hopefully by now, he's comfy on the hay.

Geesh.  Give a dog an inch and he'll take a mile.

cute story; those animals definitely have a mind of their own and they know schedules, don't they? Koda, our Corgi, lets us know when he's ready for bed in the evenings.
