We have twins!

Cliff's been keeping this cow in a pen close to the house for at least a week, so she wouldn't go off to the woods to calve, and perhaps lose the calf in one of our caverns.  Well, he was working on a project today that required leaving an opening in the fence, and off she went... to one of the most precarious points on our place:  A huge gulf to the right, and another huge gulf to the left.  Arick came out to ride Blue, and I told him to watch for the cow, to see if she had a calf.  Imagine my surprise when he came back and told me she had two.  They've both been up nursing now, so they ought to be OK.  We've had lots of cows over the years, but this is our first set of twins.  I think they're both girls!

They are cute! Twin girls are good right? I know that if they are mixed sex that one is sterile but I cannot remember which.

OH! How cute. It looks as if the black one has just been born because it still looks wet. The mama is sure standing on guard. Glad they are safe now. Helen

Wow.  I guess it's that time of year again.  I've been away from the farm for so long that I forgot that late April/early May is when all the calves enter the world.  One of my favorite childhood memories is walking out to the pasture to watch those little guys kicking up their heels and prancing around while the moms watched me suspiciously.  Good times.   Russ

Must be the year for twins. One of John's had twins recently. One of his daughter's goats had triplets and one of her neighbor's goats had triplets. John's babies stay right together. So cute. Paula
