Ham ball recipe

HAM BALLS IN BARBEQUE SAUCE

Prep: 20 min. Bake: 45 min Oven: 350     Makes: 6 servings

2 beaten eggs

1 ½ soft bread crumbs

½ finely chopped onion

2 Tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

12 ounces cooked ham

12 ounces ground pork or beef

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

½ cup catsup

2 Tablespoons vinegar

1 Teaspoon dry mustard

1. In a large bowl combine eggs, bread crumbs, onion, milk, 1 teaspoon dry mustard, and pepper. Add ground ham and ground pork or beef. Mix well. Shape into 12 balls, using about 1/3 cup mixture for each ball. Place ham balls in a lightly greased 2-quart rectangular baking dish.

2. In a bowl combine brown sugar, catsup, vinegar, and 1 teaspoon mustard. Stir until brown sugar is dissolved. Pour over meatballs.

3. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven 35 to 45 minutes, or until done. (An instant-read thermometer inserted into meatballs should register 160 degrees). Transfer meatballs to a serving platter. Stir sauce into dish. Spoon sauce over meatballs to serve.

I can personally vouch for these. They were awesome! Although I might need some more to be really sure.

I'd never heard of "Ham Balls" until I read your son-in-law's journal for the first time.  I can't help but wonder how a little hot sauce might add a kick.  ?  I add cayenne pepper to almost everything I make.  Just a thought.    Russ

I've actually been looking for a recipe for ham balls--and copied this down! Divine providence? I make a really good ham loaf (the same basic recipe as meatloaf, but omit the ketchup from the mustard/brown sugar topping, and bake half the time; I've used Spam successfully (the canned variety!) when I didn't have enough cooked ham).
So, ham balls it is!

LOL Ooooh! Not THOSE balls. You had me worried. Actually...this sounds just like my meatloaf recipe only you made the meat into round balls instead of a loaf. LOL

This sounds good and easy.  PreTeen and I will make these.  I've printed out the recipe.
